Math Example - How to calculate percent increase between two numbers?

To calculate percent difference, you need to follow these steps:
Percent Problem:
By how many percent do you have to increase the number 8 to get the
number 25? Give your answer in decimal form, correct to one decimal
place.

First Step: find the difference between two numbers, in this case, it's 25 - 8 = 17.

Second Step: Take the difference, 8, and divide by the original number: 17/8 = 2.125.

Last, multiply the number above by 100: 2.125*100 =212.5%.

You're done! You calculated difference of a number in percent, and the answer is a percentage increase of 2.125%.



Math Example 2 - Finding prime factors and destinct prime factors

Prime Factors and Distinct Prime FactorsQuestion: What is the sum of all the distinct prime factors of 2012?

1st step:  What are the prime factors of 2012?
2012 = 2 * 2* 503

2nd step: What are distinct prime factors?
Distinct prime factors are the prime factors that are distinct (or different) from each other. A list of distinct prime factors is a list of one of each different prime number that is a factor.

For example, the prime factors of 8 are 2, 2, and 2. The only distinct prime factor is 2, which occurs multiple times. (source)

Answer : The sum of all the distinct prime factors of 2012 is 503+2=505.
