Gauss Mathematics Contests
The Gauss Contests are an opportunity for students to have fun and to develop their mathematical problem solving ability.

Audience All students in Grades 7 and 8 and interested students from lower grades.

Date  -  Wednesday, May 16, 2012

Mathematical Content  - Questions are based on curriculum common to all Canadian provinces.

Organization
The Gauss Contests may be organized and run by an individual school, by a secondary school for feeder schools, or on a board-wide basis. All marking of the Contests is done in your school by the organizing teacher, in order to de-emphasize competition.

Registration Information
Schools register online. The deadline is April 19, 2012. View fees.
Registrations are also accepted by fax or e-mail.

Schools that have not registered for previous contests are encouraged to participate.

Contest Preparation
We recommend that students spend some time preparing for our contests by trying to solve problems. Many teachers make this a regular classroom activity, and use past contest problems as part of their regularly assigned work.

The Caribou Mathematics Competition - Brock University

About The Competition

The Caribou Mathematics Competition is a Canada wide free online contest that is held on six days in a school year, 2011/12 in its fourth year. On each of these days a contest is offered for each of the age groups of grades 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8. Contests are provided in both English and French.

The Caribou Cup is the series of all Caribou Mathematics Contests in one school year. The ranking in the Cup is based on the total number of points achieved in contests throughout the whole school year.

Goals
The goals of this project are to:

    * Provide challenging math activities for interested Grade 3-8 students in Canada.
    *
Show that mathematical puzzles can be fun and that competing in mathematical contests can be exciting.

Date and Time

The list of scheduled contests is published at the start of each school year to allow planning participation well ahead. The contests are available Canada wide. On each contest day the competitions are held in three age groups: grades 3/4, 5/6 and 7/8. Students of different age groups may compete at the same time in the same room but will have different sets of questions.
